BOMMER'S CANYON

3.03.2014

A few weekends ago we enjoyed another little hike in our area - Bommer's Canyon. We were busy all day relaxing and doing errands so we didn't manage to make it out for the hike until it was close to sunset. It made for a beautiful blue glow on the grassy canyon and the perfect light, cool breeze for our walk. We started out on the path laid out through the canyon, but I was itching to hike and so we left the path and headed up one of the hills. We climbed through sharp, dry grass, several old, abandoned barb wire fences and prickly pear bushes until we got as far up as we could without losing all the light of day. Here are a few shots from our little adventure.

For a leisurely walk and a little adventure off the path, Bommer's Canyon was perfect.

Adventure On The Horizon

2.28.2014

I just found out yesterday that my vacation time was approved at work! Since a rain storm has decided to visit this weekend in usually sunny California, Landon and I are so excited to stay in, make some hot chocolate and plan, plan, plan our next trip!

I'm not sure where we will end up going. One part of us wants something tropical, the other something cold. One part wants something relaxing the other wants something wilderness. So we have been scrolling through thousands of Pinterest pictures and a world map in our efforts to narrow down the search. I think because we don't yet have any little ones in the house we will probably go with another backpacking adventure. I'm imagining lots of hiking, sleeping under the stars and maybe some kayaking. Ooo we'll see!

In preparation for the start of planning we have watched a couple films for inspiration I want to recommend. The first is so inspiring when you are getting ready to plan a trip: 180 degrees South. It's a diary not just of one epic trip to Patagonia, but two and features the founders of both The North Face and Patagonia Inc. More than just gorgeous landscape and amazing adventures, this movie also captivatingly illustrates what drives our need to travel, what is possible when we travel and how to build a truly fulfilling experience.

The second film is just my new favorite movie. I'm sure you have heard about it: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I loved every second of this film. It inspires adventure, making something unique of your life and doing what you love. Check it out!

Enjoy!

Hiking Crystal Cove

2.04.2014

Lately, Landon and I have been doing our best to juggle our new life with my new work schedule. We feel so blessed that the first six months of my orientation I am on day shifts because it allows us to spend the evenings together. In June, I will go to nights and it will be a very different adjustment. Since I have been working as a nurse we have been trying very hard to make the most of every day I have off with activities and exploring. A few weeks ago we went on a hiking date around an area of the coast called Crystal Cove. It was beautiful weather and so nice to spend the day together.
