The Island of Capri

10.06.2013

After Rome we made our way down to Naples so that we could take the ferry boat to the Island of Capri. Naples was such a busy, busy city! The driving of mopeds and cars was insane! We had a cute little apartment at the top of a building and this was our view.

We began our many loads of laundry (first time any of our clothes were washed on our trip) and hung them to dry. Then we went walking about for dinner.

We decided on a Pizzeria, but the pizza we chose had this weird vegetable that tasted like burnt broccoli. So we didn't finish it.

Here is the view of Capri from the ferry boat. It is about a 40 minute ride to the island and you bump up and down the entire way. The little boy next to us couldn't take the bumping and vomited all over himself. It was the saddest moment of our trip.

There were so many things to see in Capri from the Blue Grotto to the natural arcs, but all we wanted to do when we made it to shore was swim in the beautiful water! So we did! The beach was all large, hot rocks and it was so funny to try and walk into the water and stay upright. Oh but the water! How incredible it was! So clear, so blue, so warm! I am missing that today!

Our lunch was Bruschetta - a thick piece of toast with mozzarella, basil, pepperoni and tomatoes.

After lunch we took the Funicolare up to the main streets of Capri. This is where the best restaurants, hotels and shops are.

What a view!

The Bougainvillea flowers were all in full bloom!

We decided to go on a hike to see the Arco Naturale and we found ourselves on one of the best adventures of our trip! It was by far Landon's favorite experience in Europe. First we trekked up to the top of the island along steep and skinny stone paths.

Until we reached the Arco Naturale. Such a beautiful natural creation!

Then we came to the stairs! Hundreds of stairs first stone, then dirt down to the bottom of the island where the gorgeous grottos are.

We were trying to get here! All Landon wanted was to swim in this grotto.

It took us a while to get down to the bottom of the island, but the views along the way were so beautiful!

When we got there we felt like mer-people swimming in a grotto of turquoise water beneath the towering rock structures. The water was warm and deep and fish swam between our legs. Who knows what lied at the bottom of that grotto!

Capri is known for its lemons. Their lemon gelato is the best! And they also have lemon cookies, lemon cake, lemon candies, lemon bread, lemonade, lemon smoothies... The lemons come in all sizes but the best ones are the ones the size of grapefruits!

For dinner we stopped at a restaurant with a view of the ocean and had Bufalo Mozzarella Caprese salad. Oh my word was it amazingly good!! Yum Yum!
